A Snipet of my skincare journey
In the beginning…
Was a young girl who just loved mixing ingredients together. She never believed that skincare in the beauty stores was made good enough.
Skincare has always played a significant role in my life. One thing I know for sure is I am the one person everyone around me asks about skincare.
At 15, I started playing and experimenting with different products. It thrilled me, and I couldn’t get enough of it. Most of my allowances were directed towards buying skincare (it’s still the case).
When I discovered the world of DIY, I unleashed my inner cosmetics chemist and started entertaining the idea of me becoming one someday.
Skin issues
Unfortunately, some products made the situation worse than before. I would use products designated explicitly for acne, which turned out to be too drying. I felt insecure.
Young me ended up with dry acne-prone skin- a nightmare. Back in the day, not much information was available to the open on skincare, so I winged it. I would make concoctions and try them out. Some worked, and others were pure irritation for my skin.
My dad could not just understand where my obsession with skincare came from and would be mad and worried that I was five to destroy my skin. He eventually accepted me for what I was, though my passion looked odd at the time.
Biggest struggle
2019 was the worst year of my life. I had the most significant breakout on my face and neck, and my hair started to fall. It was stress-induced coupled with severe hormonal imbalances. Adult acne was at my doorstep, and I was back to being the insecure 15-year-old girl.
It was painful emotionally and physically.
The skincare 360
A year later (2020), I decided to do something about my skin. The acne had gone down, leaving me with a million scars. I put myself up for a challenge to test all the research I had been doing over the years.
I emptied out all my unnecessary skincare and went back to basics. It was clear to see that the starting point was to repair my skin barrier. Vitamin C was number two on my budget because of my hyperpigmentation, and it is the best antioxidant out there if formulated correctly. An improvement was evident within a month because I stayed consistent.
I started incorporating a bit of actives, and everything started looking clearer.
And finally
Through these skincare problems over the years, I grew to love in-depth research about different skincare products and ingredients.
I am even working towards becoming a cosmetics chemist, doing my undergraduate in Biotechnology.
Skincare is a never-ending journey, and it would be my pleasure to walk along with you. Expect to learn about everything and anything about skin, from the body to the face and even what you ingest, because- yes, it makes a difference too.
